First knits

Weten jullie je allereerste breiwerkje nog? Ik heb het zelfs nog, een stoffige slungelige harlekijn bestikt met plastic kralen. Jarenlang is hij met mij meeverhuist. Op de lagere school, de Sint Ludgerusschool in Soest, moesten we de pop, die bestaat uit rechte en schuine lapjes in ribbelsteek, in de tweede klas (ongeveer 7 jaar oud) al breien. Maar mijn harlekijn werd geen succes…… Ik vond breien namelijk meteen al leuk dus breide vrij los, dus mijn pop werd dubbel zo groot als die van de andere kinderen die met zweethandjes de piep-acryl veel strakker breide. Bovendien naaide ik ‘m vol met kralen in allerlei patronen. Prachtig vond ik ‘m, maar juffrouw Kroos niet…….
Een paar maanden terug vond ik bij Mijn Pakkie-An in Asten het boekje waar waarschijnlijk het patroon in stond terug. Wat een schattig boekje voor die tijd.
Do you remember your first knittings? I even kept it through the years, a dusty, long, plastic beaded ‘harlekijn’. Year after year it moved with me from house to house. When I attended primary school, the Sint Ludgerusschool in Soest, we had to knit this doll, that exists of square and triangle pieces in garterstitch, in the second class (age about 7 years). But my harlekijn was not a success…… I really liked knitting so my knittings were quite loose and my doll was twice the size of those of the other children that knitted the squaking acryl tight with there sweaty hands. On top of that, I sewed plastic and wooden beads on it from top to feet in several patterns. I loved it, but the teacher, juffrouw Kroos didn’t……
A few months ago I found the book from which probably the pattern was taken at Mijn Pakkie-An in Asten. Such a lovely book for the sixties.
