Suri en Huacaya Alpaca

De rode alpaca shawl is klaar, geblocked en al! Mooi? Hij voelt zwaar aan, ondanks de dat de draad dun was (200 meter op 50 gram) en als je ‘m omdoet voelt hij eerst koud om vervolgens op te warmen. Het patroon komt duidelijk naar voren in deze alpaca. Allemaal eigenschappen van Huacaya alpaca, één van de twee rassen alpaca’s. Want er is er nóg een, Suri alpaca, een soort die maar 10% van alle alpaca’s uitmaakt. Maar mooi! De onderste foto’s tonen mijn nieuwe project, een Kiri op naalden van 5 mm. Het is Suri alpaca, in Parijs gekocht bij Mercredi & Cie, een wolhandeltje met hele bijzondere wolsoorten. Dat dit echt ander alpaca is, zie je ook aan het ongesponnen materiaal. Heerlijk licht ondanks dat het dikker is en toch nog 130 meter op 50 gram.
Graag zou ik jullie even willen laten voelen aan het mohair-achtige pluis, maar jullie moeten het doen met de foto’s……
Ook leuk dat ik even ons witte huisspookje op de foto kon vastleggen.
The red alpaca shawl is ready, blocked already too! Nice? It feels heavy, despite the fact that the thread is thin, (200 meter on 50 gram) and when you wear it first feels cool and after a while warms up. The pattern shows clearly in this kind of alpaca. All properties of Huacaya alpaca, one of the two alpaca breads. There is another bread, the Suri alpaca, a kind that makes up only 10% of all alpacas. But wonderful wool! The fotos on the last row show my new project, a Kiri on needles of 5 mm. It is Suri alpaca, bought in Parijs at Mercredi & Cie, a yarnshop with very special kind of wool, mostly natural. That this is totally different wool shows the unspun material. Nice fluffy despite the fact that is thicker and still 130 meter on 50 gram.
I would love to let you feel this mohair-like fluf, but you have to make do with the photos……
