Knitting weekend

Er zijn weekends dat ik mijn breimaatjes meer zie dan mijn eigen man Jan en dit was er weer zo’n weekend. En het was het waard. Zaterdag vierde we onder het genot van een kopje koffie, ‘n eitje en een breitje het 12,5-jarig Schapekop-jubileum mee met Gretha in Nieuwpoort. We zijn er dan ook niet vertrokken zonder iets te kopen. De achterbak van de auto zat (weer) vol met tasjes. Ook tasjes met zijde en mohair die we in de Distel in Oudewater scoorden, 3 eurootjes voor een bolletje van 25 gram zuivere zijde in schitterende kleuren is natuurlijk niet veel en na ons bezoek was de etalage dan ook helemaal zo goed als leeg.
Zondag gingen we al om half 7 op pad, richting Keulen, waar de Fachmesse Hobby & Handarbeiten werd gehouden. We hebben onze ogen uitgekeken en ons helemaal verlekkerd aan de nieuwe garen en breitools. Vooral de sokkengarens van Kaffe Fassett van Regia en de Hundertwasser van Opal waren prachtig. De show van Opal was wel wat merkwaardig en wie wil er dood gevonden worden in een gebreide broek of mantelpakje van de Hundertwasser waar ik nu sokken van brei? Of in de restjesjurk van plastic fluf?
Mooi spul was er zeker ook. De klapper waren de prachtige zijdes, zijdemengingen en andere natuurlijke garens van Hasegawa, een Japans bedrijf. En Kauni uit Denemarken. En ons oude vertrouwde Clover die ons gul ieder twee paar breinaalden schonk. Elders krijgen we de Sabrina, wie had kunnen denken dat dit tijdschriftje nog eens bij mij binnen zou komen, maar goed, het was gratis hè, net als de tasjes garen om uit te testen waar we als kinderen zo blij mee weg liepen! 😉 Helaas geen minibolletjes Opal dit jaar. Toch wel het leukste van zo’n beurs, gratis spullen scoren.
Miriam en Frans Tegels leidden het schnellstricken weer. Ik breide net als in Parijs 132 steken. Om 17.00 uur richting huis, een heerlijke foute maaltijd van kibbeling, patat en sperziebonen bij de Campanile in Zevenaar en om 20.00 uur alweer thuis. En om 22.00 uur op bed…… volledig uitgeteld……
Zalig in de tuin gebreid met wat kenissen met koffie verkeerd, chocolaatjes, broodjes met eikenhoutsplinters (Mont d’Or-kaas dus) en sapjes. Ik moest ze ook wel paaien met lekkers, want we breiden de Grolsche Wanten na en dat viel af en toe niet mee. Vanavond zie ik ze alweer…… om 19.00 uur verzamelen voor een avondje breien met Stitch ‘n Bitch Amsterdam waarbij Nancy Marchant ons de Brioche steek zal uitleggen: de Patentsteek.
There are week ends that I see my knittingmates more than I see my husband Jan and this was such a weekend. And it was worth is. Saterday we celebrated Gretha’s 12,5 jubileum at the Schapekop in Nieuwpoort with coffee, easter eggs and some knitting. We didn’t leave the shop buying nothing. The trunk of car was stuffed with bags. Also bags containing silk and mohair that we bought at the Distel in Oudewater, 3 euro for a ball of 25 gram pure silk in wonderful bright colors is of course not too much, so when we left the shop-window was almost empty.
Sunday we left at 6.30 in the morning for Köln, where we attended the Fachmesse Hobby & Handarbeiten. We have seen so many wonderful things, all the new hits in the knitting world, yarn, needles, tools etc. Especially the socks yarn of Kaffe Fassett (Regia) and the Hundertwasser (Opal) were wonderful. The show presented by Opal was a little perculiar, and who wants to wear a knitted pants or ladies suit made of the Hundertwasser yarn which I use now to knit socks from? Or a dress made of odd balls plastic fluf?
Beautiful stuff was there also. My favorite were the wonderful silk, silk mixes and other natural yarns of Hasegawa, a Japanese company. And Kauni from Denemark. And our wellknown Clover. Generously they gave us all two pairs of free needles. From another company we got the Sabrina, not the most exiting magazine, but well, it was free, just like the little plastic bags with yarn to testknit which made us very happy too. (the Dutch love to get things for free) 😉 But no mini balls of Opal, sorry Hil, who almost could not control herself to steal them from the walls of the stand. Eventually that is the nicest aspect of going to tradeshows, getting stuff you would never ever buy yourself for free.
Miriam ann Frans Tegels led the speedknitting again. I knitted the same amount as in Paris, 132 stitches. At 17.00 h we left to go home, eat a wonderful but very unhealhty meal of fried fish, chips and beans at the Campanile in Zevenaar and at 20.00 h we were home. And at 22.00 h I went to bed….. totally exhausted……
A nice knitting meeting with some acquintances in my garden with milkcoffee, chocalat, bread with oak (French Mont d’Or cheese) and juice. I had to make them this nice lunch as I wanted them to help me knit the Grolsche Wanten and that was not easy. Tonight I see them again…… at 19.00 h we gather to go to Amsterdam to knit with Stitch ‘n Bitch Amsterdam where Nancy Marchant will show us how many possibilities there are for the Brioche stitch.
