Life 'n Knitting

Eén dag voor ons boek Warme Handen uitkwam (dus op 26 oktober 2011), werd in Estland Haapsalu Rätt van Siiri Reimann en Aime Edasi uitgebracht. Het prachtigste kantbreiboek dat ik ooit in handen heb gehad. Nóg mooier dan hun vorige boek The Haapsalu Shawl.  Wat een meesterwerk! Maar liefst 2,3 kilo zwaar, mooi uitgevoerd in hardcover en tjokvol patronen (73 shawls en 25 randen!). De oude foto’s illustreren de verhalen over de geschiedenis van de traditionele Haapsalu shawls en de modellen showen hoe je de shawls een aanvulling op je garderobe kunnen vormen. Je weet gewoon niet wat te kiezen om als eerste aan te beginnen!

One day before our book Warm Hands was published (on 26 October 2011), Haapsalu Rätt by Siiri Reimann and Aime Edasi was published in Estonia. The most beautiful lace book I ever held in my hands. Even more beautiful than the previous book, The Haapsalu Shawl. What a masterpiece! It weighs no less than 2.3 kilograms, well made in hardcover and chock-full with patterns (73 shawls and 25 edges!). The old photos illustrate the stories about the history of the traditional Haapsalu shawls and the models show us how these shawls can make an addition to our wardrobe. It’s hard to choose which one to start with!

Siiri en Aime kenden we al van onze Estland-reis in 2010. We volgden toen een workshop bij hen in Haapsalu, waarna ze ons hun mooie dorpje, het musuem over de Haapsalu-shawls en diverse wolwinkeltjes lieten zien. Een geweldige en ontzettend bijzondere dag die me altijd bij zal blijven. Siiri en Aime weer terug zien op Mardilaat was dan ook het zoveelste hoogtepunt van de reis. Monika’s foto van de onze groep tijdens de workshop in Haapsalu staat ook in het boek, net als de foto van Siiri en Aime met een shawl van mij in ons boek. En natuurlijk signeerden we elkaar’s boeken.

We already knew Siiri and Aime from our trip to Estonia in 2010. We had a workshop from them in Haapsalu, after which they showed us their beautiful village, the Haapsalu shawl museum and several yarn shops. It was a marvellous and very special day that I will always remember. Seeing Siiri and Aime again at Mardilaat was one more of the many highlights of our trip. Monika’s photo of our group made during this workshop in Haapsalu is in their book, as well as our photo of Siiri and Aime with a shawl made by me is in our book. And of course we signed each other’s books.

De Haapsalu-boeken zijn uitgegeven bij uitgeverij Saara. Wat leuk om Katrin van Saara te ontmoeten na haar al zo vaak aan de telefoon te hebben gehad. Vanaf nu kijken we uit naar elkaar’s telefoontjes! 😉

Publisher Saara published The Haapsalu books. It was so nice to finally meet Katrin from Saara after so many phone calls with her. From now on we look forward to speaking to each other on the phone! 😉

De Afstap in Amsterdam was de eerste winkel in Nederland waar je Haapsalu Rätt kon kopen. De verkoopprijs van 45 euro.
The Haapsalu Shawl wordt op dit moment helaas niet meer gedrukt, maar De Afstap heeft nog een paar exemplaren voor 34,95 euro per stuk. Maar dan moet je wél snel zijn!

Unfortunately the Haapsalu Shawl book is out of print at this moment, but De Afstap still has a few left for 34.95 euros. But then you have to be quick!
