Het Twined Knitting houd me in de ban. Op de foto’s waarop ook poes Dana en haar echtgenoot Peri te zien zijn, zie je een traditionele Zweedse want uit het boek van Ling: Two End Knitting. Het breien is lastig, maar als je de logica ontdekt in het streepjeswerk, wordt het duidelijker. Er is een grote en een kleine duimspie voor extra pasvorm. Doordat je bij het meerderen en minderen bij de spies wel consequent het wisselen van de kleuren kan aanhouden staan als vanzelf de blokjes. Fantastisch, de techniek en functionaliteit van de want vormt de decoratie!

De blauw-witte gestreepte wanten zijn gebreid naar het patroon van Nancy Bush uit Piecework. Met een kleine aanpassing was het patroon van de effen wolwitte wanten prima te vertalen naar streepjeswanten. Het verschil in type want is echter enorm. De wolwitte wanten die ik enige weken geleden breide, hebben een klassieke uitstraling, de gestreepte ogen grafisch en eigentijds.

Marnel maakte de groenige wanten van zelfgesponnen zijde, schapenwol en kamelenwol: drie beestjes in één paar wanten!

Twined Knitting is still an obsession to me. On the photos with cat Dana and her husband Peri, you can see a traditional Swedish mitten from the book of Ling: Two End Knitting. The knitting is a bit difficult, but when you see the logic in the striped knitting, it get easier. There are a big and a little thumb gusset for extra good fit. When you are consequent in switching colors when decreasing and increasing, you see a pattern form itself. Awesome, the technique and the functionality form the decoration!

The blue-white striped mittens are knitted with the pattern of Nancy Bush in Piecework. With small change the pattern was knitted with two instead of one colors. But the difference in appearence is enormous! The woolwhite mittens I knitted a few weeks ago have a classical appearence, the stripes ones are graphical and contemporary.

Marnel made de greenish mittens from homespun silk, sheepwool and camelwool: three animals in one pair of mittens!
