Wat zijn shawls toch heerlijk om te breien. Zonder je echt veel zorgen te hoeven maken om de maat, kan je de mooiste stekenpatronen verwerken die in de ronde, rechthoekige of driehoekige vormen goed tot hun recht komen. Restjes garen brei je zonder het risico niet uit te komen met je garen tot shawls. En je groeit er nooit uit! 😉
Shawls are wonderful garments to knit. Without worrying too much about size you can knit in the most beautiful stitch patterns in the round, square or triangle shapes. If you have a few balls yarn left over from another project shawls are ideal projects too. And you will never have to throw a shawl away if you gain some pounds! 😉
De MondNacht, het intrigerende Japanse patroon van een Shetland stola, blijft boeien en dus blijf ik er fanatiek aan doorbreien. En als coördinator van de MondNacht KnitAlong in Knitting in Japan is dat natuurlijk ook noodzakelijk om anderen te kunnen helpen met de problemen die je tegen kan komen bij het breien. Het lastigst is het aanbreien van de kanten rand en het keren van de hoekpunten. En omdat een plaatje zoveel meer zegt dan duizend woorden heb ik foto’s gemaakt van mijn eigen breiwerk in wording. Het document, met de stap voor stap handleiding van de werkwijze zoals ik die interpreteer vanuit het Japanse patroon, kan je gratis downloaden. De MysteryStole vordert ook al lekker, ik ben al bijna bij clue 4. Ik brei de shawl van een getwijnd zijden garen dat ik gekocht heb bij Textilmuseum De Scheune in Duitsland. Het patroon is niet al te lastig, maar wel heel mooi. Maar het pas onthulde thema Swanlake is in mijn stola niet terug te vinden; de zijde is grijsblauw en omdat ik niet echt van de bling bling ben, heb ik de kraaltjes geschrapt. Ook weet ik nog niet of ik de zijkanten eraan ga breien of zal besluiten de stola symmetrisch te breien. Hoe dan ook ontstaat er een stola met een barokke uitstraling die ik vast met veel plezier zal dragen.
The MysteryStole is growing too, I almost reached clue 4. I knit the shawl of a twined silk yarn I have bought at Textilmuseum De Scheune in Germany. The pattern is not so difficult to knit, but very beautiful. But the theme Swanlake can not be recognized in my stole, as it is knitted in grey-blue and don’t like bling bling, so I skipped the beads. Also, I don’t know if I will at the wings at the sides or will knit it symmetrically. Which ever way I do it, the stole will have a baroque appearance. I will probably get to wear it a lot.
En dan is er nog de shawl uit Gathering of Lace die gebreid wordt van roomwit cobweb-garen van Jamieson & Smith op naalden 1,5 mm. Wat een klus, maar wat een prachtig patroon! Maar dat wordt nog wel even stevig doorzetten……
And then there is the shawl from Gathering of Lace that I knit from creamy white cobweb yarn from Jamieson & Smith on needles 1,5 mm. What a mega job, but such a beautiful pattern! That will ask for a lot of patience and perseverance……
