Paris 2008 – Paris Tricot

En als je dan in Parijs bent en je eigen breiavondjes moet missen, dan brei je gewoon mee met de groep ter plaatse. Verleden jaar leerden we al de breiers van Brentano kennen. Dit jaar was de groep verplaatst naar een ruimte achter in de winkel. Met bijna dertig breiers best druk, maar er gaan veel makke breiers in een hok, dus het lukte allemaal prima. Flo maakte foto’s van breiwerken voor het Canal-blog. Ook Marie-Claire verteld over ons bezoek op haar blog. Vooral het Twijnend Breien trok veel aandacht. Ook het shirtje van Corrie werd uitgebreid gefotografeerd. Cathy attendeerde ons op de Paris Tricot-groep die iedere dinsdagavond bij elkaar komt in La Defense.
Bij de Starbucks in het grote winkelcentrum Quatre Temps troffen we een aantal breiers aan rond een tafel op het winkelplein. Rond zes uur kwamen ze vanuit alle hoeken haastig aangelopen. Even breien ná het werk en voordat je thuis de pannen op het fornuis zet. Naast een drukke baan en gehaast leven in de grote stad vinden de breiers er een momentje rust met wol en naalden. Op zo’n moment prijs ik mezelf gelukkig dat ik zoveel tijd kan spenderen aan mijn passie. En vraag ik me af hoe het kan dat ik toch nog tijd te kort kom……
Grappig om zo midden tussen het winkelend publiek te breien. Geen van de voorbijgangers kijk trouwens verbaasd op van zoveel brei-activiteit. Een Letlandse die al jaren in Parijs woont, liet het mutsje van haar baby zien, ‘just like the one Saartje knitted for Lotte’, zei ze, met moeite de Hollandse namen uitsprekend…….
We hebben van al die gezelligheid bij Brentano ook nog korte video’s gemaakt. En eentje van de stand van The Dutch Knitters op L’Aiguille en Fête terwijl meneer Corry en Marianne een bolletje opwinden. En eentje over Jantje en zijn petje.
When you are in Paris and you have to miss out on your regular knitting nights you just knit along with Paris Tricot. Last year we met the knitters of Brentano. This year the group was moved to the back of the store. Quite busy with almost thirty knitters, but a lot of peaceful knitters need only a small place to be happy, so it all fitted in nicely. Flo made photos of all knittings for the Canal-blog. Marie-Claire also told about our visit on her blog. Especially the Twined Knitting got attention. Corrie’s shirt was extensively photographed. Cathy drew our attention to the fact that there is a Paris Tricot group knitting every Tuesday night in La Defense.
At Starbucks in the big shopping mall Quatre Temps we met a few knitters sitting on a table on in the mall. Around six they came from all directions, obviously hurried. A moment of knitting after work and before putting the meals on the table at home. So the knitters find a short moment of peace with wool and needles. On such a moment I’m so happy to have all my time to dedicate to my passion. And ask myself how it is possible that even I think I don’t have enough time……
Funny to knit in the middle of shoppers. None of the passer-by’s noticed the knitters. A letvian knitter living in Paris for years now, showed us the hat of her baby, ‘just like the one Saartje made for Lotte’, she said, having some difficulty pronouncing the Dutch names…….
We made short videos of the cosy encounter at Brentano in Paris. One of the meeting at Paris Tricot at Brentano and one of the stand of the Dutch Knitters on L’Aiguille en Fête while meneer Corry and Marianne wind a ball together. And one about Jantje and his hat (in Dutch).
