Je zal maar gek op boeken zijn én van breien houden. Dan staat je huis binnen de korste keren vol breiboeken. En ik heb er weer een leukie bij waar ik jullie over wil vertellen, namelijk Portugese Style of Knitting van Andrea Wong. Onze ex-cursisten van Het Betere Breiwerk kennen de techniek van het breien met de draad in een speldje aan de schouder of om de nek al, want bij deze breicursus voor gevorderde breiers laten we de cursisten bewust kennis maken met allerlei breitechnieken om meer te weten te komen over hun eigen breitechniek en hoe ze die mogelijk kunnen perfectioneren. In Andrea’s boek vind je informatie over de geschiedenis van deze manier van breien in Portugal, over de tradities en natuurlijk veel over de techniek. Met volop duidelijke foto’s worden opzetten, de meest gebruikte steken en afkantingen uitvoerig uitgelegd. Voor mij is dit het belangrijkste deel van het boek, maar de patronen achterin het boek zijn ook leuk. Vooral die wantjes met het traditionele Portugese haantje!
What happens when you love books as well as knitting? Your house is filled with knitting books in no time. And again I’ve got a very nice one that I am eager to tell you about, namely Portugese Style of Knitting by Andrea Wong. Our ex-students of the course Het Betere Breiwerk (Advanced Knitting course) already know the technique with the yarn through a pin at the shoulder or around the neck, because in this course for advanced knitters we deliberately teach the students all kinds of knitting methods to have them discover more about their own knitting method and the ways to perfect it. In Andrea’s book there is a lot of information about the history of this way of knitting in Portugal, about traditions and, of course, loads of information about the technique. With lots of clear pictures the cast-ons, the most commonly used stitches and the cast-offs are explained in detail. For me this is the most important part of the book, but the patterns in the last part of the book are very nice as well. Especially the mittens with the little Portugese rooster!
