Getver, ik ben ziek…… een flinke bronchitis en nog een paar aanverwante kwalen belemmerde me ervan gisteren Estlandse Breitechnieken te geven in De Afstap in Amsterdam. Wat een teleurstelling! We hebben zoveel moois voor deze workshops dus we balen dat het niet doorgaat. De Afstappers vonden dat reden voor een opfleurende bos kerstbloemen waar ik me meteen beter door voelde. Dank jullie wel voor een opstekertje dat precies op het goeie moment kwam.
Yak, I’m sick…… a bronchitis and some related ailments yesterday prevented me from giving the workshop Estonian Knitting Techniques at De Afstap in Amsterdam. Such a disappoinment! We have so many nice items for this workshop, so we find it very disappointing to have to cancel it. The Afstapper’s thought this was a good reason for a cheeerful bunch of Christmas flowers that made me feel better right away. Thanks for a pleasant surprise on just the right moment.
Nog een lichtpuntje in het bestaan van een zieke, zwakke en misselijke breister was de Greta Garbo-shawl van Nancy Bush. Zij was geïnspireerd door het hartmotief en bedacht daar een rand bij. Per abuis was het plaatje van de shawl zonder patroon in het nieuwe boek Knitted Lace of Estonia terecht gekomen. Ons geluk, want het patroon kan wel worden besteld bij Wooly West in een kit met twee strengen Nordic Lites. In vijf dagen tijd breide ik daar verleden week de shawl van die in een iets andere vorm in 1930 werd aangeboden aan Greta Garbo, vandaar de naam. De zesde dag, maandag, blockte ik de shawl op bed, maar ‘s middags werd Greta Garbo zonder pardon het bed uitgezet om plaats te maken voor een koortsige breister.
Another positive element for a sick knitter was the Greta Garbo shawl from Nancy Bush. She was inspired by the heart motif and combined it with a border. By mistake the image of it without the pattern found it’s way into the book Knitted Lace of Estonia. Our luck, as the pattern can be ordered at Wooly West in a kit with two skeins of Nordic Lites. Last week I knitted in five days a shawl of it. A Haapsalu shawl was offered to Greta Garbo in 1930, hence the name. The sixth day, Monday, I blocked the shawl on my bed, but in the afternoon Greta Garbo was kicked out of the bed to make room for a feverish knitter.
Het patroon is gebaseerd op hartvormen, iets wat Berthi, de initiatiefneemster voor het hartenproject, zeker zal aanspreken. Linda Elgas is de autheur van Haapsalu Rätikud, een boek vol traditionele patronen voor echte Haapsalu shawls. Ook daar ben ik een shawl uit aan het breien met prachtige Misti baby alpaca van De Afstap. Maar op naalden 2,25 mm zal deze niet in vijf dagen af zijn……
The pattern is based on hearts, something Berthi, who took initiative for the hartenproject, will surely appreciate. But on needles 2,25 mm this one will not be ready in five days……
