Brussel in kerstsfeer, prachtig!

Brussels in Christmas mood, wonderful!
The family weekend in Brussels was a great succes, despite the nasty virusses that first attacked me and now husband Jan. If I don’t feel well, it doesn’t matter if I’m at home or at a nicer place, I always say. The
Hôtel Métropole in the center of town was a beautiful hotel from the nineteenth century, where Einstein and Jacques Brel spent lots of time in the bar. The stylish Christmas ornaments made the entrance and lobby look even more like a fairy tale. An evening playing cards and knitting in the lobby, with a nice cocktail, was a true delight. We felt spoiled and taken care of in this luxerious hotel. Seldom I got such a good and big breakfast, great!

Brussels was cosy and very much alife, but our tempo was low as we had lots of fysical limitations, so we didn’t make it to wool- and quiltshops. But we all loved Cos, the Scandinavian store that we already visited in New York and London. The small yellow busses from which the warm gaufres (waffels) were sold, were parked in all the streets. Bonbon shops with window displays stuffed with goodies. Everywhere shops with beautiful lace. The Christmas markets only sold rubbish, but added to the good atmosphere  in the old town. The inhabitants of Brussels seemed to like kitschy stuff, so everywhere Santa dolls where hanging from the fronts of the houses. On the big market place a light organ and special music made it even more kitschy. Great! We hopped into bars and restaurants, enjoyed the luxe and style of the hotel, eat, drunk, laughed etc together, so we all returned home happy.

Sister in law wore her kniertjes (fingerless gloves) that I knitted for her last year. And of course I wore my new Norwegian Wedding Gloves. In a shopping arcade I found a knitted Christmas tree, all the fabric hanging down for the branches. Obviously artists were asked to make up some of these wooden trees to decorade the arcades. A nice idea, but they did a bad knitting job….. 😉
