Tijdens mijn eerste reis in 2014 naar Letland ontmoette ik de Noorse breister Anne Bårdsgård tijdens de wantenconferentie in Riga. We raakten aan de praat en ze vertelde dat ze het plan had om een boek over Noorse wanten te schrijven. Altijd leuk, maar ik kon toen niet vermoeden dat dit zo’n geweldig boek over de Noorse want zou worden. Een paar weken geleden werd het lijvige werk bij mij afgeleverd en ik wist niet wat ik zag, zo mooi, compleet en grondig. Het is hét meesterwerk over Noorse wanten!
Hoewel dit boek in het Noors geschreven is en waarschijnlijk niet in het Engels vertaald gaat worden, is het toch een must-have voor iedere zichzelf serieus nemende wantenbreier. Voor het breien van wanten is de beheersing van het Noors niet noodzakelijk, want het boek staat vol, maar dan ook tjok en tjokvól, met patronen, motieven en foto’s. Pagina na pagina verbaas je je over de veelheid en variatie. Honderden en honderden sterren, Selburozen, randjes in allerlei breedtes, motiefjes, poppetjes en verschillende duiminzetten. Maar liefst 300 pagina’s in een mooi gebonden boek met boeklint. Kortom, dit boek moet je gewoon hebben.
In de Afstap in Amsterdam kan je een exemplaar kopen. Er zit een prijskaartje aan, maar ja, dan heb je ook wat. 😉
During my first trip to Latvia in 2014, I met the Norwegian knitter Anne Bårdsgård at the conference in Riga. We talked a bit and she told me that she was planning to write a book about Norwegian mittens. That sounded as a good idea, but at the moment I could not suspect that this would such a great book on the Norwegian mitten. A few weeks ago, the voluminous work was delivered at my house and I was so surprised about what I saw, such a beautiful, complete and thorough book. It is the masterpiece on Norwegian mittens!
Although this book was written in Norwegian and probably will not be translated into English, it’s a must-have for every serious mitten knitter. For knitting the mittens it is not necessary to be able to read and understand Norwegian, because the book is full, really stuffed, with patterns, motifs and images. Page after page it will amaze you about the amounts and variety. Hundreds and hundreds of stars, Selbu roses, borders in various widths, patterns, human figures and several ways to make a thumb gusset. As many as 300 pages in a beautifully bound hardcover book with reading ribbon. In short, this book you simply must have.
In Afstap in Amsterdam you can buy a copy. It is not cheap, but hey, you just got to have it.
