Pas kreeg ik een mailtje van iemand die zo graag de wanten wilde nabreien die haar 91-jarige moeder ongeveer 60 jaar geleden voor haar vader had gebreid. Ze vroeg mij advies, omdat haar moeder niet meer wist je de steek moest breien. Tijdens mijn wekelijkse breiavondje bij Stitch ‘n Bitch Utrecht in het Polmanshuis in Utrecht kwam ze ze laten zien. Ze had ze net nog aangehad op de fiets. Tja, er is ook wat te zeggen voor acryl, het is wél sterk. 😉
Wij natuurlijk allemaal met ons neus er boven op, maar helaas, we kwamen niet verder dan ‘Brioche-achtig’ en wat het in ieder geval allemaal niet was.
Dus bij deze,… wie weet met welke steek deze wanten zijn gebreid en kan uit leggen hoe deze wordt gebreid?
Recently I received an email from someone who wanted to copy the mittens which had been knitted by her 91 year old mother about 60 years ago for her father. She asked me for advice, because her mother did not know how to knit the stitch pattern. During my weekly knitting evening at Stitch ‘n Bitch Utrecht in the Polmanshuis in Utrecht she came to show them. She had worn them on her bike while riding to the Polsmanshuis. Well, after all, acrylic yarn is quite strong, so they survived 60 years of wear and will last a little longer.
Of course we were all willing to examine the mittens thouroughly, but unfortunately, we did not find out anything beyond “Brioche-like” and what in any case it was not.
So here it is … who knows with which stitch pattern these mittens are knitted and can explain how this is done?
