En na de BreiReis naar Parijs en de gezellige dagen op Zin dé Beurs, gaat het dagelijks leven weer verder. Het eerste uitje dat dichterbij komt is de Textiel Plus-dag as zaterdag in Nieuwegein en daarna op zondag 1 april naar Keulen voor de Fachmesse Handarbeit & Hobby.
Ondertussen brei ik vlijtig door. De Twined Knitting-wanten zijn inmiddels af en zelfs al gebruikt. Heerlijk warm. De combinatie van zachte kidmohair (Oh Lekker) en de hardere Gotlandpels, beide van de Klosse doet het goed. Zacht én sterk.
Ook het Twined Knitting-mutsje uit Twined Knitting van Dandanell is klaar, maar een tikje aan de kleine kant. Dat vermoedde ik al toen ik halverwege was, maar het werd zo’n liefie dat ik wel door moest breien. Grumpy is er blij mee.
Het is gemaakt van Mora-garen gekocht bij Wooly West, met S-ply wat fijner werkt bij Twined Knitting omdat het makkelijker terugdraait.
Voor schoonzus Henriëtte – die over twee weken 40 jaar wordt – op speciaal verzoek een paar kniertjes, handschoenen zonder vingers. Als Henriëtte ziet wat ik als basispatroon heb (suikerzoete mitaines met ruches) gaat ze over haar nek…… dus die voor haar worden wat stoerder, zwarte 4-ply merino van Rowan, een ribboordje en een gesloten stekenpatroontje op de hand. Wees maar gerust Henriëtte, het wordt wel wat! 😉
Ondertussen ben ik ook nog van mijn geloof gevallen en weer aan de gestreepte sokken, wel een niet regelmatige streep, Hundertwasser van Opal. Heel onverwachte kleurwisselingen, dat houdt de spanning er wel in. En druk garen houdt bij mij in dat ik een rustig patroon gebruik, in dit geval de gele ribsok van Nancy Bush uit Vintage Socks.
En dan nog een project waarvan Brent recentelijk uitriep: ‘Ben je daar nu nóg mee bezig?’. Ja dus, een hele klus en alleen voor onderweg tot nog toe. Nu wat meer vaart erachter want ik ben zo benieuwd hoe de twee helften aan elkaar gezet moeten worden en wat het effect is van het blocken. Het patroon komt uit Arctic Lace, een boek over kantbreien in Alaska. Ze bevelen de peperdure Qiviut aan, maar het resultaat met de Alpaca van Drops mag er ook zijn. Qiviut is van de muskus os, misschien ruikt het ook wel minder lekker dan Alpaca…..
And after the BreiReis to Parijs and the nice days on Zin dé Beurs, daily life goes on. The first knitting day out is the Textiel Plus-dag next Saterday in Nieuwegein and after that on Sunday April 1th I go to Köln for the Fachmesse Handarbeit & Hobby.
Meanwhile, I just knit along. The Twined Knitting-mittens are done and even used. Nice and warm. The combination of the soft kidmohair (Oh Lekker) and the stronger Gotlandpels, both sold by de Klosse works out well. Soft and strong.
Also the Twined Knitting-cap from Twined Knitting written by Dandanell is ready, but a bit too small for me. I know that before I was half way done, but well, it was becoming so cute that I just had to keep on knitting. Grumpy is happy with his new hat.
It is made of Mora-yarn bought at Wooly West, a S-plied yarn. This makes it more suitable for Twined Knitting as it is easier to untangle.
For my sister in law Henriëtte – turning 40 years old in two weeks – a special request, a pair of kniertjes, gloves without fingers. When Henriëtte sees what I use a the basic pattern (sugarsweet mitaines with ruffles) she will be a bit sick…… so those I’m knitting for her will be a bit more sturdy, black 4-ply merino from Rowan, a one-one rib border and a closed stitchpattern for on the hand. Be sure Henriëtte, I will make a nicer pair for you! 😉
Althought I thought I had it with self striping yarn I bought a ball Hundertwasser from Opal for striped socks, with a not regular striping pattern. Very surprising color changes keep me knitting now. And a fancy yarn asks for a simple pattern so I choose the yellow rib sock from Vintage Socks written by Nancy Bush.
Last but not least, a project which made Brent call out: ‘Are you still knitting on that?’. Yes, a big job and until now I only knitting it on the way. Now I hurry up a bit as I’m so curious how the two parts willl be joined and what the effect of the blocking will be. The pattern is from Arctic Lace, a book about knitting lace in Alaska. The recommend the expensive Qiviut, but the results with the Alpaca from Drops seem to be okay too. Qiviut is yarn from musk oxen, maybe my Alplaca smells nicer too…..
