De mooiste kantgebreide shawls uit het Noordelijke gebied (Scandinavië en de Baltische staten) komen uit Haapsalu in Estland. Niet alleen de stekenpatronen, maar ook de traditionele constructie van middenpaneel en kantrand en de historische achtergrond zijn interessant. Ik vertel in een artikel in The Knitter 61 over de ervaringen in Estland en met het breien van de shawls op authentieke wijze. We hebben voor The Knitter een shawl ontworpen met molentjes, om de band die wij voelen tussen Estland en Nederland te onderstrepen. Alweer het vijfde artikel en derde patroon dat we publiceerden in The Knitter, daar zijn we best een beetje groots op hoor. 😉
The best lace knitted shawls from the North of Euroop (Scandinavia and the Baltic states) come from Haapsalu in Estonia. Not only the stitch patterns, but also the traditional construction of the center panel and lace edge and the historical background are interesting. I tell about the article in The Knitter 61 about the experiences in Estonia and about knitting the shawls in the authentic way. We also designed a shawl with windmills for The Knitter, to emphasise the bond we feel there is between Estonia and the Netherlands. This is the fifth article and the third pattern we published in The Knitter, yep, we are a bit proud of that! 😉
