Eindelijk is hij af. De lichtblauwe Estlandse alpaca shawl op naalden 2,25 mm. Een zucht van verlichting toen de laatste steek van de naald rolde en een kreetje van blijdschap toen ik zag dat hij precies zo is geworden als dat ik ‘m wilde. Het was even doorbreien, maar dan heb je ook wat.
Finally, it is done. The light blue Estonian alpaca shawl on needles 2,25 mm. A sight of relief when the last stitch fell from the needle and a scream of joy when I saw it turned out exactly as I hoped it to be. It was a big job knitting, but it was só worth it.
Het materiaal, Misti Alpace lace weight, is lekker zacht, maar ook erg sterk, waardoor het goed te blocken is. Het blockt niet crisp, maar draperend, zoals de Belgen dat zo leuk uitdrukken. Door de soepelheid van de vezel behoudt het zijn vermogen op te bewegen en dat maakt de dunne shawl extra mooi en elegant. Alpaca heeft nog een bijzondere eigenschap. In eerste instantie voelt het materiaal koel aan, maar na korte tijd voel je de isolerende werking en hoe goed het warmte vasthoudt. The material, Misti Alpace lace weight, is nice and soft, but also very strong, so you can block it very well. It doesn’t block crisp, but drapy, like the Belgium people express it. The soupleness of the fibers garantees the ability to move and that is what makes a shawl extra beautiful and elegant. Alpaca has another special quality. At first the material cool, but after a while you feel how good it isolates warmth. Misti Alpaca you can buy at De Afstap in many beautiful colours.
Het patroon van het middenpaneel komt uit Ratiküd door Linda Elgas (shawl januari 1981). Het was nog best lastig om de hoekpunten en zijden die niet in het patroon waren uitgeschreven, te breien. Ik heb gekozen voor een rand uit Haapsalu Sall voor de rand die Elgas gekozen had. De shawl is een moderne versie van de traditionele Haapsalu shawls. De rand is dan ook aangebreid in plaats van aangenaaid, waardoor je in de hoekpunten mooie waaiertjes krijgt. De nupps met zeven lussen waren niet makkelijk te breien in dit gladde garen, maar dankzij de Addi kantnaalden was het toch te doen. De punt van deze naalden is scherper waardoor je alle lusjes toch samen kan breien. Zolang je je nupps maar losjes, losjes, zeer losjes breit.
The pattern of the middle panel is in Ratiküd, written by Linda Elgas (shawl January 1981). It was not easy to knit the corners and sides that were not in the pattern. I choose a border from Haapsalu Sall instead of the border Elgas had choosen. The shawl is a modern version of the traditional Haapsalu shawls. The border is knitted on and not sewed on, so you can make fan out in the corners. The nupps with seven loops were not easy to knit in this slippery yarn, but thanks to the Addi lace needles is could be done. The point of these needles is sharper so all loops can be purled together. As long as your nupps are loose, loose, very loose.
