Finally the moment was there, the knitting night with Nancy Bush and Beth Brown Reinsel in Amsterdam. Lots of knitters came to the ABC Treehouse the ABC Treehouse in the center of Amsterdam to listen to what the two famous knitters had to tell, while showing of their beautiful projects. Surrounded by our knitting friends, who of course wanted to be there too, Hil and I enjoyed the story of Beth about how she ended up with an impressing amount of workshops because she loved to teach and knit. We do recognize that in how we stared The Dutch Knitters!

Nancy Marchant had haar indrukwekkende stash-zolder opgeruimd.

Nancy Marchant cleaned out her impressing stash attic. Some knitters have a shash closet, some a stash room, but Nancy has a stash warehouse on her attic. Part of it formed the prizes for a lottery and I won a bag with golden yellow bouclé. Enough for a golden poodle? Or a catbed for our cats? The jackpot was a bag with yarn plus an already knitted piece of a sweater straight from the eigthies. Fortunately this beauty never made it to Ariadne (Dutch crafts magazine) Nancy! 😉 Brent became the happy new owner.

In the room the housecat messed about the many legs, bags and knittings, not showing any interest in the heat, the needles or the knitters that focussed their attention on the knitting celebrities and their beautiful work and not on her.

Thanks to the contact by mail I had before with Myrna Stahman via De Afstap, she know how to find the event. She is the author of Stahman’s Shawls and Scarves, a great book about her specialty, Faroese shawls. She showed us a few of her projects. Hil showed her Faroese shawl with the typical butterfly form, that falls so nicely round the shoulders.

Before going to the event Nelleke bought at De Afstap a copy of Haapsalu Sall, a truely wonderful book by Aimee Adasi and Siiri Reimann. The gorgeously published book with 122 patterns is a true gem a costs 34,95 euro. Real lace knitters will love it. This is a book that you should buy now, as eventually you want is anyhow……

Beth signed her book Knitting Ganseys and Nancy her five books, which gave a sore arm. As we knew Myrna was coming too Hil and I brought our copies of Stahman’s Shawls en Scarves (also for sale at De Afstap), in which she wrote something nice. Lily Chin, author of Couture Crochet visited De Afstap, where her photo was made, together with my collegues Jans and Hanneke.

Dank aan Nancy Bush, Beth Brown Reinsel, The American Book Center, Idle Hands and last but not least, onze eigen breiberoemdheid Nancy Marchant, de Queen of Brioche, voor deze gezellige en inspirerende avond! We wensen alle cruisegangers een geweldig goeie reis toe.
