Vrijdag was de beursdag waar we nu eens niet met een Dutch Knitting Café waren, maar gewoon lekker voor onszelf. Ze misten ons wel, want menig maal hoorde ik dat men ons cafétje tevergeefs had gezocht. Organisatrice Vanessa Marchenaud vond ons wel terug in het restaurant, waar we een toertje breiden en Brent eventje Dutch Knitting Cafétje speelde terwijl hij de Franse dames uitlegde hoe je een sok breit. Op de bovenverdieping was een tentoonstelling van operakleding, oude handwerktools en daar vonden we ook Hélèna Magnússon die we hadden leren kennen tijdens IKnit. De Habu-dames waren blij ons te zien op de beurs, ook al hadden ze een kamer op dezelfde verdieping van het hotel. Loop uit Londen had geweldige garens bij zich, waar Korinne al snel haar keus had bepaald. Glanzende mohair,
Friday was the day we went to the fair. This time we didn’t organize a Dutch Knitting Café , but went there just for ourselves. They did miss us however, for many times I heard that people had in vain been looking for our café. Organizer Vanessa Marchenaud did find us in the restaurant, where we were knitting a few rows and Brent played Dutch Knitting Café for a short time while explaining the French ladies how to knit a sock. Upstairs there was an exhibition of opera costumes, old crafts tools and that’s were we also found Hélèna Magnússon, whom we had met at IKnit. The Habu ladies were also happy to see us at the fair, even though they had a room next to us in our hotel. Loop from London brought some fabulous yarns and Korinne had made her choice in no time.
‘s Avonds zoefde we met z’n allen naar de Opéra voor een recitel van Simon Keenlyside. Het was ons eigenlijk meer om het avondje uit en het prachtige gebouw te doen dus na de vijfde toegift was het mooi geweest want we waren meer toe een een wijntje dan aan nog een lied. We proosten meteen ook maar even op de leesbril van Tanja, waarmee we toch nog de kaart konden lezen en Brent stiekum zijn vullingen kon tellen. Taxi’s delen met Tanja, die Parijs grotendeels bekeek vanaf haar vouwfiets, bleek een geweldig luxe.
In the evening we all whizzed to the Opéra for a recital by Simon Keenlyside. The reason was rather to have a nice evening out and to have the opportunity to see the interior of this beautiful building than being such fans of him, so after the fifth encore we craved for a glass of wine much more than for again another encore. We took the opportunity to toast to Tanja’s reading glasses, which enabled us to read the map and Brent could secretly count his fillings. Sharing taxies with Tanja, who did the sightseeing of Paris mainly from her folding bike, appeared to be a big luxury.
