De tweede dag van de breireis naar Liepaja brachten we grotendeels door in het Liepaja museum. Daar is een prachtige collectie wanten en ander textiel te zien. Verleden jaar was ik hier ook, maar er was toen weinig tijd, dus het was heerlijk om nu uitgebreid alles te bekijken. Maar we werden ook aan het werk gezet. In één van de ruimtes waren korte workshops. Je kon zelf bepalen wat en hoeveel je wilde doen. Maar de meesten van ons waren fanatiek en probeerde alle workshops zo snel mogelijk erdoor te jassen.
De lunch was in het prestigieuze Big Amber, waar we ook het diner hadden waarbij de certificaten werden uitgereikt. Ja, het licht binnen is ook amberkleurig, net als de buitenkant.
The second day of the breirais to Liepaja we spent most of the time in the Liepaja museum. They have a beautiful collection of mittens and other textiles. Last year I was there too, but then there was little time, so it was wonderful to see everything in detail now. But we were also put to work. In one of the rooms were short workshops. You could decide yourself what and how much you wanted to do. But most of us were fanatic and tried to do all workshops as quickly as possible.
The lunch was in the prestigious Big Amber, where we also had the dinner when we got our certificates. Yes, the light inside is also amber coloured, just like the outside.

Na de lunch werd ons een kijkje gegund bij een ander deel van het museum, dat normaal voor het gewone publiek gesloten is. Daar was prachtig kralenwerk tentoongesteld. Een deel ervan was te koop, dus ik kocht er een polswarmers met meerdere kleuren. Ik kan ze natuurlijk zelf breien, maar poeh, best veel werk hoor. Zelfgekocht in plaats van zelfgebreid is ook best wel eens lekker! In de middag leerden we hoe de Letse Solvita de kralenpolswarmers breit. Lia Mona Gibiete is de schrijfster van Suitu Rakstainas Zekes (Suiti Pattered Socks – breiboek over de zeer kleurrijke kousen uit Alsunga) introduceerde haar nieuwe boek, dat we natuurlijk vrijwel allemaal kochten en lieten signeren. Het boek is sowieso erg lastig te verkrijgen, dus we waren als kinderen zo blij ermee!
De dag werd afgesloten met een chique diner in het beste restaurant van Liepaja. Ik blijf nog even plakken, want de bar ook erg gezellig en Maruta en Ansis waren inmiddels ook gearriveerd. En een taxietje terug is makkelijk te organiseren en kost werkelijk geen fluit.

After lunch they gave us a glimpse of another part of the museum, which is normally closed to the public. Beautiful beadwork was displayed there. Part of it was for sale, so I bought multi-colour wrist warmers. Of course, I can knit them, yeah, but it is a lot of work. Self-bought instead of self-knitted is also good now and then! In the afternoon, we learned how the Latvian Solvita knits her the beaded wrist warmers and other things. Lia Mona Gibiete is the author of Suitu Rakstainas Zekes (Suiti Pattered Socks). She introduced her new book, which we of course almost all bought, signed be the author. The book is very difficult to obtain, so we were so happy with it!
The day ended with a chic dinner at Liepaja’s best restaurant. I stayed after dinner because the bar was also very cozy and Maruta and Ansis had arrived. And a taxi back is easy to arrange and costs next to nothing.
