My most beautiful Shetland souvenir was this cute travel guide from 1924. The knitter with the ‘keshi’ (peat basket) on her back drew my attention in the small antique store in Lerwick, so I immediately made a bid. A super deal! Lots of interesting information. Pictures of my favorite places on Shetland, such as Bressay lighthouse, Noss, Lerwick, Scalloway, Sumburgh, Unst and more. The booklet also contains a chapter devoted to the Fair Isle and lace knitting. Even the ads are nice to read. The pictures show a still quieter Shetland, but somehow not much has changed since then. The archipelago was and is still beautiful and very dear to me.
