No Limits – Lex learns how to knit!
Lex heeft Tourette, maar als hij zich concentreert heeft hij er minder last van, dus is hij op zoek naar bezigheden die zijn tics indammen. Op No Limits Network doet hij verslag van zijn zoektocht. Afgelopen week was hij bij Stitch ‘n Bitch Utrecht om te leren breien als ticvervanger. Gevaarlijk werk, dus ik had dikke plastic breinaalden met stompe punten voor ‘m opgezocht. Na een klungelige start, had hij snel de slag te pakken en tot mijn verbazing breide hij enthousiast een paar naalden uit. Zelf was hij er minstens zo verbaasd over dat het zo goed ging. En hij had er lol in! Op de vraag of hij het bolletje garen en de naalden mee wilde nemen, reageerde hij blij: “Ja, maar heb je wel een zakje of zo, ik moet de trein nog in en heb geen tas!”. Leuk hè, wel met de dames de kroeg in willen om te leren breien, maar niet met je breiwerk onder je arm de trein in willen. Gelukkig vond ik nog een discrete verpakking in mijn tas.

Lex has Tourette’s syndrom, but if he concentrates he has less tics, so he is looking for activities that reduce his tics. On No Limits Network he shows the results of his quest. Last week he was at Stitch ‘n Bitch Utrecht to learn to knit as a tic reducer. Dangerous work, so I brought some thick plastic needles with blunt tips for him. After a clumsy start, he soon got the hang of it and to my surprise he knitted enthousiasticly a few needles. He himself was equally surprised that it went so well. And he was having fun! When asked whether he wanted to take the ball of yarn and needles home, he reacted happily, “Yes, but you do have a bag or so, I still have to go with the train and don’t have a bag to put it in”. Isn’t it funny, he thinks it is no big deal to go to the pub with some ladies to learn how to knit, but he didn’t want to go into a train with his knitting under his arm. Luckily I found a discreet package in my bag.
