Man Jan vindt het machtig interessant dat zijn vrouw én zijn huiskamer te zien zijn in het museum Boijmans van Beuningen als onderdeel van het werk van Ellen Korth. Hij wilde dan ook de graag de opening meemaken. Ik zag het als een leuk dagje uit en goed te combineren met een bezoek aan de tentoonstelling van Jean Paul Gaultier in de Kunsthal. Ondanks dat het de hele dag zeek van de regen, er kwam geen einde aan, hadden we zo een genoeglijk dagje en maakten we ook nog een stukje mee van de gezellige Rotterdamse Museumnacht.
Husband Jan thinks it to be very special that his wife ánd his living room can be seen in museum Boijmans van Beuningen as part of the work of Ellen Korth. He loved to be there as soon as the exposition was opened. I thought it to be a nice day out. It could very well be combined with a visit to the exposition of Jean Paul Gaultier in the Kunsthal. Despite of the fact that it didn’t stop raining all day long, we had a lovely day and even experienced a bit of the very nice Museum Night in Rotterdam (an evening where lots of museum are open until late at night).

De expositie HandMade is gericht op traditioneel en hedendaags ambacht. Er zijn workshops, demonstraties en tijdens de Museumnacht een markt met handgemaakte produkten. Daar vind je van alles, van handwerk van hoge kwaliteit tot leuk in elkaar gefröbelde objecten. En allerlei lekkers voor wie trek heeft. Ellen Korth was natuurlijk ook aanwezig en apetrots op het grote succes van haar project waar ze zoveel jaren aan heeft gewerkt. De expositie zal over enkele maanden te zien zijn in het textielmuseum in Bochelt in Duitsland. Het prachtige boek Utilité waarin alle geïnterviewde ambachters in hun eigen uitvouwbare huisje vertellen over hun werk, is te koop bij het museum.
The exposition HandMade is aimed at tradtional and contemporary craftsmanship. There are workshops, demonstrations and during the Museum Night there was a markt where handmade products could be bought. There was a lot of stuff, from high quality handmade objects to quickly puttted together things. And nice food for those who had a graving. Ellen Korth was there also of course. She was very proud of the big succes of her project, on which she spend so many hours during the last years. The exposition will be transferred to the textile museum in Bochelt Germany. The beautiful book Utilité in which you can find the interviews with the crafters is still on sale at the museum. In this book every crafter has its own foldable ‘home’ where they tell about the love for their handmade work.

Het werk van Jean Paul Gaultier was boven verwachting interessant. De speelse manier van exposeren, waarbij je heel dicht bij de meeste kledingstukken kan komen zonder glas ervoor, draagt daaraan bij. Heel bijzonder waren de paspoppen waarop de kleding werd getoond. Haast iedere pop had een projectie van het gezicht van het model op het hoofddeel. Dit waren filmpjes, waardoor het leek of de poppen tot leven kwamen als ze een stuk tekst uitspraken. Vriendelijke lachjes en stemmetjes zorgden ervoor dat de sfeer gemoedelijk bleef, ondanks de vaak erotische uitstraling van de kleding.
The work of Jean Paul Gaultier was even better as I had hoped for. The playful way of putting the exposition together and the fact that most of pieces of clothing were in your reach without glass, adds to the feeling of being able to touch it. Very special were the dolls on with the clothes was shown. Most of the dools had a projection of the models face on the head part. These projections were short movies, so the dolls seemed to come alive when they spoke little pieces of text. Friendly smiles and voices made the atmosphere nice, even though the collection had an erotic appearance.
