Het feest kan beginnen, want de boeken zijn binnen!

Let’s party, the books have arrived!

Het zat even een beetje tegen bij de binder, maar gelukkig zijn de boeken nét op het nippertje binnen om vanaf morgen te worden verkocht op de beurs. Ons eigen boek, Warme Handen, wat een geweldige ervaring om het eerste exemplaar in handen te houden en open te slaan. Ze ruiken lekker vers, zien er prachtig uit en tot nog toe hebben we nog geen foutjes ontdekt. Dat komt vast nog wel. 😉

There was some delay at the binder, but fortunately the books arrived in the nick of time to be sold at the fair tomorrow. Our own book, Warm Hands, what a tremendous experience to hold the first copy in your hands and open it. The books smell really fresh, are beautiful and up till now we haven’t detected any mistakes. But that might change.

Vanaf morgen is Warme Handen in het Dutch Knitting Café op de Handwerkbeurs in Ahoy Rotterdam te koop. Het boek is tweetalig, Nederlands en Engels, bevat een uitgebreid beschreven basispatroon voor de wanten en alle technische informatie (verduidelijkt met foto’s) van de speciale Estlandse opzetten, randjes en een mooie afkanting. Er staan patronen met teltekeningen voor elf wanten en twee schattige polswarmers in. Daarnaast hebben we een aantal foto’s van antieke wanten uit het Eesti Rahva Muuseum in Tartu opgenomen. En we vertellen over hoe het zo allemaal gekomen is met die enorme liefde voor Estland en de Estlandse breikunst die leidde tot dit geweldige project.

As from tomorrow Warm Hands can be bought in the Dutch Knitting Café at the Handwerkbeurs in Ahoy, Rotterdam. The book is bilingual Dutch/English, contains an extensively described basic pattern and all of the ‘native’ stonian knitting techniques used are described in detail and illustrated using close-up photographs.
The book offers eleven patterns for mittens and two for lovely wrist warmers, each containing clear instructions and charts. We also included a number of photographs of antique mittens from the Eesti Rahva Muuseum in Tartu. And we tell all about how this fantastic project started with our great love for Estonia and the Estonian art of knitting.

Er kwam veel op mijn pad, toen ik besloot een boek te schrijven en vrijwel alles zelf te doen. Ook dingen waar ik nog nooit eerder bij stil had gestaan. Een ISBN-nummer en streepjescode, hoe kom je daar inshemelsnaam aan? En waar moet een persbericht aan voldoen? Hoe ontvang je betalingen uit het buitenland? Hoe zwaar wordt zo’n boek en past het nog in een A4-envelop…? Wie denkt dat het alleen maar breien en schrijven is, heeft het mis. Maar juist alles wat er extra bij komt, dát is wat het geheel zo’n leerzaam en vooral creatief proces maakt.

I came across lots of things during the process of writing a book and doing almost everything myself. Also things I never thought of before. An ISBN number and bar code, how to obtain those for Heaven’s sake? And what should be the contents of a press release? How to receive payments from abroad? What is the weight of such a book and does it still fit in an A4 envelope…? Anyone who thinks it’s only knitting and writing, is wrong. But in fact all these additional tasks make it such an instructive and above all creative process.

Inmiddels heeft de drukker ons geestelijk voorbereid op het feit dat een oplage van 2000 exemplaren betekent dat er pakweg 65 dozen bij ons worden afgeleverd. Ik ga denk ik eerst maar eens mijn wolzolder op creatieve wijze opruimen. Jullie helpen ons op de Handwerkbeurs toch wel van flink wat dozen af, toch? 😉

In the meantime our printer has mentally prepared us to the fact that 2000 copies of the book means that some 65 boxes will be delivered at our doors. I think I will start clearing my yarn attic in a creative way. You will help us get rid of many boxes at the Handwerkbeurs, won’t you? 😉
