Dit was alweer het vierde jaar dat we het Dutch Knitting Cafe organiseerde tijdens IKnit Weekender in Londen. Wat komen we toch graag ieder jaar in Londen naar dit fantastisch leuke event. Dit keer kregen we een prachtig plekkie vlak bij het podium waardoor we midden in de actie zaten en breiers lekker even mee konden breien. En naast Eirwen van de KnitWitches met al haar verleidelijke garens. Ze verkocht zo goed dat ze aan het eind van de beurs de bedragen wilde aanslaan op haar weegschaal. Gerard kreeg als dank voor de organisatie van ons jaarlijks breifeest de plastic tulpen uit het café, waar ook Eirwen zo weg van was we er haar ook maar eentje toegeschoven hebben.
This was the fourth time we organized the Dutch Knitting Café during the IKnit Weekender in London. How glad we are to participate in this fantastic event every year. This year we had a splendid spot close to the stage, so we were placed in the centre of the action and knitters could easily join us for a few rows of knitting. And we were right next to Eirwen of the Knitwitches with all her alluring yarns. She sold so well that she wanted to strike the amounts on the scales instead of on the till. As a thank you for organising our yearly knitting party we gave him the plastic tulips from the cafe. Eirwen loved them too so much that we had to give her one too.

Habu was er ook, helemaal vanuit New York. En Wooly Thoughts, met mysterieuze schaduwbreisels, EasyKnits, dit keer bijgestaan door Marleen van Dutch Knitting Designs, Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Shop en nog veel meer handelaren met een assortiment voor de echte yarnsnob. Bij Coleman kocht ik onder andere een breischede, waar je lopend mee zou moeten kunnen breien. De Shetlanders haalden er 200 steken per minuut mee. Zeggen ze. Dat belooft wat. Ik zal jullie verslag doen van mijn experimenten met dit intrigerende attribuut.
Habu was present as well, all the way from New York. And Wooly Thoughts, with mysterious shadow knitting, EasyKnits, assisted by Marleen from Dutch Knitting Designs this time, Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Shop and many more traders with an assortment of yarns for the real yarn snob. At Coleman I bought, among other things, a knitting sheath, with which you should be able to walk and knit at the same time. The Shetlanders made up to 200 stitches a minute with it. So they say. That’s promising. I’ll report you on my findings with this intriguing object.

Vrijdag na afloop van de beurs nodigde organisator Gerard ons uit om mee te komen borrelen in de Engelse pub The Barley Mow. Gewéldig, daar zit je dan samen aan een gigantische beer na te genieten van een geweldige dag. Corry wilde niet op de foto, maar haar kabouter gelukkig wel. Die kabouter was ook getuige van het drankgelag van Titia tijdens het Indiase dineetje, traditiegetrouw bij Masala Zone in Covent Garden.
Friday after the fair organizer Gerard invited us to the pub for a drink. It was fabulous, being together and enjoying a gigantic glass of beer after a fantastic day. Corry didn’t want her picture taken, but fortunately her gnome did. The gnome also witnessed Titia’s drinking bout while we had an Indian diner, according to tradition at Masala Zone at Covent Garden.

Breien en een voorliefde voor supergave schoenen met hakken waar je hoogtevrees op krijgt, gaan blijkbaar samen. In ieder geval wel bij Alice Starmore die in haar mooie paarse vestje tegenover ons Dutch Knitting Café haar heruitgave Aran Knitting signeerde. Het boek, dat tot voor kort voor circa 400 dollar via Ebay werd verhandeld en waar ik via de site van The Dutch Knitters een handtekeningenactie voor opzette om het herdrukt te krijgen, is in één woord geweldig. Maar Alice’s schoenen waren dat ook!
Het boek was nu al te verkrijgen bij IKnit op de IKnit Weekender, maar binnenkort ook bij de wolwinkels, boekhandels en via het internet.
Dank je Alice, voor de herdruk van dit geweldige boek en voor het showen van je prachtige schoenen!
Knitting and a predilection for super cool shoes with heels that give you fear of heights, obviously go together. It certainly does for Alice Starmore who did a book signing of her book Aran Knitting just across our Dutch Knitting Café, wearing her beautiful purple cardigan. The book that up until now was traded for about 400 dollars at Ebay and for which I started a campaign to get it reprinted, is in one word fantastic. But Alice’s shoes are as well!
The book could be obtained already at the IKnit stand at IKnit Weekender, but will soon also be available at yarn shops, bookshops and through the internet.

Wat was het weer leuk! Voor de vierde keer was ik met een flink stel breivrienden aanwezig op de IKnit Weekender in Londen met een Dutch Knitting Café. Ik gaf er workshops Double Knitting en Estonian Lace, hebben me suf gekocht aan boeken, garen en breispullen, veel oude vrienden ontmoet en het ook buiten de beursdagen geweldig leuk gehad met onze vrienden. En een bijziende kabouter die alsmaar opdook. Titia was er ook weer bij, ook over haar en haar liefde voor een lekker glaasje later meer.
Verslagen en foto’s volgen nog, maar even geduld, want ik moet eerst nog iets anders doen.

What fun we had! For the fourth time a bunch of knitting friends and I where present with a Dutch Knitting Café at the IKnit Weekender in London. I gave workshops Double Knitting and Estonian Lace, I overindulged in buying books, yarn and knitting gadgets, met many old friends and had a fantastic time not only at the fair but also outside it with our friends. And there was a short-sighted gnome that emerged all the time. Titia was with us again, more about her and how she loves a nice drink later as well.
Reports and photos will follow, but you have to be patient because first I have to do something else.

Daar gá ik…… twee dagen voordat de meeste van mijn breivrienden arriveren, vlieg ik naar Londen. De eerste twee dagen zal ik doorbrengen met shoppen, het bezoeken van wolwinkels en het Victoria & Albert Museum met een expositievan de kleding van princess Grace en lekker van de stad genieten. Vrijdag en zaterdag geef ik workshops en samen met onze breivrienden zal ik weer een gezellig Dutch Knitting Cafe organiseren tijdens de IKnit Weekender. Met de onvermijdelijke stroopwafels natuurlijk. Kom vooral een wafeltje met ons meesnoepen!
Off I go…… two days before most of my knitting friends will arrive I will take an flight to London. First two days of shopping, visiting yarn shops, the Victoria & Albert Museam with a exposition of the clothes of princess Grace and enjoying the city. Friday and Saturday I will give workshops and together with friends I will organize the Dutch Knitting Cafe at the IKnit Weekender. With unevitable stroopwafels of course. Don’t forget to come over and munch one away!

Verwende nesten, dat zijn Hil en ik zo langzamerhand wel. Want we komen op veel plaatsen waar ze de mooiste wol verkopen en overal nemen we dan wel wat mee. De stashkasten puilen uit en waarschijnlijk komen we nooit meer door de Life-Time-Expectancy-Exceeding-Stash heen, maar happy maakt het ons wel en dat is ook belangrijk!
Spoilt brats, that’s what Hil and I are by now. For we visit many places where they sell the most exquisite yarns and we bring something with us from all these places. The stash closets are bulging and we will probably never be able to knit away this Life-Time-Exceeding Stash, but it makes us happy and that is also very important!
In London kocht ik zeegroene zijde met een prachtige glans. Breien ermee zal wel niet meevallen, maar goed, dan heb je ook wat! Bij Loop kocht ik sokkengaren met Alpaca en van die handige in elkaarzet knijpertjes. Verder kon ik op de beurs de verleiding niet weerstaan om vier strengen lavendelblauwe Cashmere van hoge kwaliteit mee te nemen. En voor een prikkie zachte alpaca bij John Arbon, die ons aan het eind van de beurs verwende met een onderling te verdelen vuilniszak vol Shetland-wol.
In London I bought sea-green silk with a fantastic sheen. It won’t be easy to knit with, but well, it is very special! At Loop I bought sock yarn with Alpaca and those handy making-up pegs. Neither could I resist the temptation to buy four skeins of lavender blue high quality cashmere at the fair. And for next to nothing some soft alpaca at John Arbon, who treated us at the end of the fair with a binbag full of Shetland yarn to be divided amongst us.
Maar wie had kunnen denken dat ik op de beurs ook nog prachtige antieke breiaccessoires tegen zou komen? Voorwerpjes met hoog schattigheidsgehalte als deze gaan zeker altijd mee. Het toeren- en stekentellertje is volledig in tact en beeldschooon.
But who could have thought I’d run into some beautiful antique knitting accessories at the fair? I’m always tempted to buy objects with a high content of cuteness. The row- and stitch counter is perfectly intact and absolutely beautiful.
Onze buurtjes op de beurs gingen voor het goeie doel uit de kleren om zich te laten vereeuwigen voor de Naked Knitting-kalender. Die prijkt nu in onze woonkamer en menige gast bekijkt ‘m met gemengde gevoelens. Het A Stitch in Time-boek is alleen al lekker om door te bladeren. Het God Save the Queen-doosjes is afkomstig uit Clarence House en erg geschikt voor stitchmarkers ed.
Our neighbours at the fair took their clothes of for charity to be immortalized for the Naked-Knitting calendar. This calendar adorns our living room now and many a guest watches it with mixed feelings. Just leafing through the A Stitch in Time book is nice in itself. The God-Save-The Queen box comes from Clarence House and is very suitable for keeping stitch markers etc.
En met al die nieuwe aankopen, de spullen voor het Dutch Knitting Café en alles wat we nodig hadden voor de workshops en de ontwrichte pink van Jan hadden we een probleem met het thuisbrengen van alle moois. Daarom heel veel dank aan Hil die extra spullen in haar koffer stopte en aan onze lieve breivrienden Titia, Bri, Leny, Brent en Jantine die allemaal iets van ons meenamen!
And with all these new purchases, the stuff for the Dutch Knitting Café and everything we needed for the workshops and Jan’s dislocated little finger we had a problem taking all these nice things home with us. Therefore many thanks to Hil who put extra stuff in her suitcase and to our dear knitting friends Titia, Bri, Leny, Brent and Jantine who all took something from us with them!

Na vier dagen ging Hil en kwam Jan. En als je als echtelieden van bijna 15 jaar elkaar dan in Londen ontmoet, moet je daar iets bijzonders van maken. Dus had ik een zoektocht via SMS voor Jan uitgezet naar de Roomsoes bij Buckingham Palace, waar ik ‘m opwachtte. Zien jullie het figuurtje met het rode rugzakje staan bij het hek? Hij had geen idee wat ik met de Roomsoes bedoelde, maar gelukkig kwam het toch allemaal nog goed…… 😉
After four days Hil went and Jan came. And when you meet in London after having been married for almost 15 years, you have to meet in a special way. So I had planned a search by SMS for Jan to the cream puff at Buckingham Palace, where I was waiting for him. Do you see the small figure with the red rucksack at the gate? He hadn’t the faintest idea what I meant by the cream puff, but luckily all ended well…. 😉
Na een bezoek aan het Buckingham Palace en thee met traditioneel gebak in de tuin van de Queen, volgde een etentje bij Prezzo, ons favoriete Italiaanse restaurant bij Travelgar Square. Heerlijk, crabcakes in saffraansaus. Op de weg naar de metro vielen we met ons neus in de boter, het was de avond van het Thames Festival, waarbij mensen verkleed als waterwezens met veel getrommel en lichtjes de kwade geesten uit de Thames verdrijven.
After having visited Buckingham Palace and having had tea with traditional cake in the Queen’s garden, we had dinner at Prezzo, our favourite Italian restaurant in Trafalgar Square. Delicious, crab cakes in a saffron sauce. On the way to the underground we did strike it lucky, it was the night of the Thames Festival,, where people dressed as water creatures exorcized evil spirits from the Thames with lots of drumming and many small lights.

Maar blijkbaar was er een kwaad geestje ontsnapt, want de volgende dag viel Jan over een oranje verkeersbaken, waarbij het zijn pink in een bocht van bijna 90 graden plaatste. Paniek natuurlijk, maar ik had ‘m binnen één minuut in een taxi op weg naar het St Thomas Hospital. Daar zette zuster Cath de pink weer netjes terug in het gewricht (gelukkig, niét gebroken!). Jan moest nog twee keer terugkomen voor handtherapie en een mooi blauw spalkje. De zorg in Engeland voor eerste hulp is erg goed en gratis, dus we hebben na het spannende avontuur geproost op de goeie afloop tijdens een lekker dineetje in een restaurantje met uitzicht op Downing Street. Een goed Thames-geestje zorgde er een dag later voor dat we de állerlaatste twee kaarten voor The Last Night of the Proms in de Royal Albert Hall met Dame Edna konden bemachtigen. “Hello possums!”
But apparently one evil spirit had slipped through, because the next day Jan fell over a big orange beacon, which caused his little finger to make an almost 90 degree bend. Panic of course, but I had him in a taxi within a minute on the way to St. Thomas Hospital. Nurse Cath put the little finger neatly back into its joint (fortunately it wasn’t broken!). Jan had to return two times for hand therapy and a nice blue splint. Emergency medical care is very good and free of charge in the UK, so after this exciting adventure we toasted to the fairly happy ending during a nice dinner at a restaurant with a view of Downing Street. A good spirit of the Thames provided us with the two last cards for the Last Night of the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall with Dame Edna day later. “Hello possums!”
Het culturele hoogtepunt van de vakantie was het bezoek aan de Houses of Parliament die gedurenden korte tijd geopend zijn voor het publiek. Na een uitgebreide rondleiding hebben we nu een goed beeld hoe de parlementariërs daar politiek bedrijven en soms zelfs uit de kroegen in de buurt worden opgepiept voor een stemming. Ook Clarence House, residentie van Charles en Camilla, was een ervaring. Geen foto van Diana te bekennen……
The cultural highlight of this holiday was our visit to the Houses of Parliament that are opened for public for a short period of time. After having had an extensive guided tour we now have a good view of the way Members of Parliament do politics and are bleeped from pubs in the neighbourhood to do a vote. Clarence House, Charles and Camilla’s residence was quite an experience too. No photo of Diana to be found…..
De St Paul met de bijzondere crypte en fluistergalerij, de London Bridge en de boottocht naar Westminster, het V&A met de prachtige antieke breisels, Portobello Road, de ritten in de subway en de dubbeldekkers, shoppen in Regent Street (twee prachtige pashmina’s van Jan gehad!) en Carnaby Street, Temple en Temple Church, Sir Soan’s House, de National Gallery, de Portrait Gallery, het British Museum, Harrods, Covent Garden en China Town. Done it all, seen it all en het was geweldig.
St Paul’s with its unique crypt and whisper gallery, the London Bridge and the boat trip to Westminster, the V&A with its beautiful antique knitting, Portobello Road, the rides in the underground and the double decker buses, shopping in Regent Street (where Jan bought me tow beautiful pashminas!) and Carnaby Street, Temple and Temple Church, Sir John Soane’s House, the National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, Harrods, Covent Garden and China Town. Done it all, seen it all and it was fantastic.

Titia is een bloggable lady, zoals Hil het oh zo raak uitdrukte. Eerder dit jaar maakte ze zich al onsterfelijk in Parijs toen ze, zittend op haar kont op de beursvloer van L’Aiguille en Fête, een fles wijn opende met een schroevendraaier. Mijn schoonmoeder gevleugelde woorden ‘je kan het op je kontje doen’, kregen ter plekke een diepere betekenis. Ook in Londen was ze in de weer met alcoholische dranken, zie de foto’s van ons dineetje bij Masala Zone. Na het IKnit-feest gingen schoondochter Brie, diens moeder Leny en Titia eensgezind op hun Birkies de metro in, op zoek naar een wijnhandel waar ze ondanks het late uur de wijnkast konden plunderen. De pyamaparty op de kamer van de drie breisters was weer als vanouds gezellig.
Titia is a bloggable lady, as Hil so tellingly remarked. Earlier this year she made herself immortal in Paris while she, sitting on her bum on the floor at L’Aiguille en Fête, opened a bottle of wine with a screwdriver. My mother in law’s famous word ‘you can do it sitting on your bum’ immediately got a much deeper meaning. In London she was also up and about with alcoholic beverages, see the photos of our dinner at Masala Zone. After the IKnit party daughter-in-law Brie, Brie’s mother Leny and Titia unanimously took the underground on their Birkies, in search of a liquor store where they could ransack the wine cabinet despite the late hour. The pyjama party in the three knitters’ hotel room was as ever very entertaining and cheerful.
Man Jan, die Titia nog kent vanuit een ander leven, informeert nog wel eens naar Titia en dan zeg ik maar dat haar kapsel nog onberispelijk zit. Daar ligt het niet aan.
Husband Jan, who knows Titia from another life, every now and then inquires after Titia and I just say that her hairdo is still impeccable. So that’s not the reason.
Ons Dutch Knitting Café werd deels door een zwart gordijn afgescheiden. Nancy Marchant, die haar prachtige patente breisels daar vlakbij had gesitueerd, nam als hogepriesteres van de breikunsten met een big smile Titia de biecht af. Na het aanhoren van de zonden kwam de boete: 20 holy mohairs, 10 alpaca’s en breien op naalden van 1 mm. Titia kwam er weer gezegend vanaf……
Our Dutch Knitting Café was partitioned off partly by a black curtain. Nancy Marchant, who had stashed her beautiful knitwear close by, heard Titia’s confession as a high priestess in the art of knitting with a big smile on her face. After having heard her sins penance was imposed: 20 holy mohairs, 10 alpacas and knitting with 1mm needles. Titia got off lightly…..

Ga er maar aan staan…… het geven van workshops Twijnend Breien en Estlandse Breitechnieken in drie uurtjes én in het Engels. Vooraf waren we best gespannen voor dit nieuwe avontuur, maar die spanning verdween zodra we in ons lokaal stonden. Gelukkig was er airco in beide lokalen, zodat de opvliegers van cursisten snel de das werden omgedaan. Maar het duurde wel even voor we ontdekte dat het eerst niet werkende paneeltje aan de wand een afstandbediening was. En ik weet nu ook hoe je ‘sewing’ uitspreekt, niet als ‘sueing’ of ‘sawing’ dus.
Just go ahead and try… giving workshops Twined Knitting and Estonian Knitting Techniques in three hours ánd in English. Beforehand we were quite nervous about this new adventure, but the nervousness disappeared as soon as we were standing in our classroom. Fortunately there was airco in both classrooms, which meant that the hot flushes the students had were soon gone. But it took a while before we discovered that the control panel on the wall that did not work was in fact a remote control. And now I know how to pronounce ‘sewing’, not like ‘sueing’ or ‘sawing’.
Wat hebben we genoten van enthousiaste cursisten die er net zo hard voor gingen als wij en zich een slag in de rondte breiden om de opdrachten te voltooien. Onze voorbeelden en boeken werden gretig bekeken en we konden alle lesstof behandelen. En het mooist van alles….. na afloop van Estlandse Breitechnieken kregen we spontaan van de cursisten een daverend applaus!
We really enjoyed seeing the enthusiastic students working just as hard as we did and they knitted like crazy to get their assignments done in time. Our samples and books were eagerly examined and we could discuss all the subject material. And the nicest of all was that after having finished the workshop Estonian Knitting Techniques we got a thunderous applause!
We waren amper weer beneden in het Dutch Knitter’s Café toen we van onze vrienden hoorden dat cursisten langs gekomen waren en allerlei positieve geluiden lieten horen over hoe ze het ervaren hadden. De volgende dag kwamen twee cursisten zelfs trots het inmiddels afgebreide buideltje in de techniek Twijnend Breien laten zien. Op de hotelkamer zagen we ‘s avonds al de eerste lieve mailtjes van cursisten verschijnen. Heerlijk, wat een zalig gevoel dat het zo’n succes was en ja hoor, volgend jaar komen we weer terug met spannende nieuwe Dutch Knitters Workshops!
We were hardly back in The Dutch Knitting Café when our friends told us that students had already visited the Café and told them all kinds of nice things about how they had experienced our workshop. The next day two students even came to show us their finished pouch in Twined Knitting technique. That night in our hotel room we already received the first kind mails from our students. Fabulous, it is a very good feeling that it was such a success and yes, next year we will be back with new exciting Dutch Knitters Workshops!

Man Jan en ik zijn nét terug uit Londen, waar we na de IKnit Weekender nog een lekker weekje vakantie hebben gehouden. Hoe het allemaal op breigebied was…… even geduld nog, verslag en foto’s volgen snel!
Husband Jan and I have júst returned from London, where we spent a nice week holidays after the IKnit Weekender. About all knitting related stuff…… you need a bit of patience, story and photos will be there soon!
Op 11 en 12 september is het weer zover. The Dutch Knitters en hun breivrienden fleuren voor het derde jaar het IKnit-evenement in Londen op. Doorspekt met puur Hollands sentiment en de ergste kitsch zal er een Dutch Knitting Café worden opgetuigd waar de gezelligheid vanaf druipt. Stroopwafels, dropjes en Wilhelminapepermuntjes. Maar de zoute haringen met uitjes laten we thuis.
Here we come! On the 11th and 12th of September The Dutch Knitters and their knitting friends will for the third year in row liven up the IKnit-event in Londen. Peppered with pure Dutch sentiment and the worst kitsch, a Dutch Knitting Café will be decorated in a way that oozes cosiness and cheerfulness. We will bring stroopwafels (treacle waffles), dropjes (liquorice) and Wilhelmina-peppermints. But we will leave the salted herrings with onions at home.
We nodigen alle breiers uit Londen en omgeving en de vele Nederlandse bevriende breiers van harte uit om een toertje met ons mee te breien. Of doe je misschien al mee met een van onze workshops?

Man Jan weet het al. Als ik per sé naar een bepaalde stad, wijk of winkel wil, dan is daar iets brei-gerelateerds te vinden. Maar hij vindt het niet erg. Zoals ik al een poosje af en toe verzuchtte “sinds ik brei, kom ik nog eens ergens”, zo verzucht hij nu “sinds mijn vrouw breit, kom ik nog eens ergens”. Het is al weer even geleden, maar ik wil jullie deze info over de Londense wolwinkeltjes niet onthouden. Want hoewel ik op de IKnit Day al flink verwend was met een overvloed aan prachtige garens, weerhield me dat er niet van om ook nog een paar wolwinkeltjes in Londen mee te pikken. In Liberty is een prachtige afdeling met veel Rowan te vinden. Vergeet vooral ook niet even naar de prachtige katoenen bedrukte stoffen te kijken. Ook bij John Lewis in Oxford Street is er een garenafdeling met Rowan, Noro, Debbie Bliss, sokkengarens, Mirasol en veel breiboeken. All the Fun of the Fair is een grappig klein winkeltje op de tweede verdieping aan het pleintje tussen Kinsley Road en Carnaby Street. Het assortiment is beperkt, maar ze verkopen ook wat fournituren. En gebreide gebakjes. Bij Stash Yarns aan 213 Upper Richmond Road in Putney vond ik veel moois. Leuke merken als Misti Alpaca, Noro, Mission Falls, Koigu en nog veel meer. Hier kom ik beslist nog wel eens. En dan hebben we natuurlijk nog de topper IKnit. De nieuwe ruimere winkel is volgestouwd met vreselijk leuke mooie garens en vooral veel boeken en tijdschriften. Zálig!
Diesel is een kledingmerk, maar ze nemen de breitrend wel serieus en zorgden voor bollen wol en schapen in de etalage!
Met Jan heb ik na de breidagen nog even stevig de toerist uitgehangen. Westminster Abbey, Kensington Palace en de Diana Memorial Tour (én veel van haar jurken!), het centrum met de Big Ben, Houses of Parlement, Downing Street 10 en Travelgar Square, het V&A Museum, de National Gallery, het Britisch Museum, de Tower of London, de London Bridge, Highgate Cimetary, Harrods en veel shop till you drop. Metrootje in en weer uit, mijlenver lopen, we hebben het allemaal gezien, gedaan, ervaren en er volop van genoten!
My husband Jan is already used to it. If I really want to go to some city, neighbourhood or store, there is probably something knit-related to be found there. But he doesn’t mind. For some time I often say “since I knit I travel to the nicest places”, he now he often says “since my wife knits I travel to the nicest places”.
It is already some time ago, but I will not deprive you of information about the wool shops in London. Although I was quite spoiled at the IKnit Day with a exuberance on stunning yarns, it did not prevent me from going to some yarn shops in London. In Liberty there is a wonderful division with a lot of Rowan stuff. Don’t forget to check out their beautiful printed cotton fabrics too. At John Lewis in Oxford Street there is a division with Rowan, Noro, Debbie Bliss, sock yarns, Mirasol and knitting books. All the Fun of the Fair is a cute little shop on the second floor of the plaza between Kinsley Road and Carnaby Street. The assortment is limited, but they also sell some haberdashery. And knitted cakes. At Stash Yarns on 213 Upper Richmond Road in Putney I found a lot of good stuff. Nice brands like Misti Alpaca, Noro, Mission Falls, Koigu and lots of others. I will surely return here. And then we have the top of the bill yarn shop IKnit. The new more spacious shop is stuffed with awesome yarns and a lot of books and magazines. Wonderful!
Diesel is a brand of clothes, but they do take the knitting trend serieusly and stuffed there window pane with balls of wool and sheep!
With Jan I did London in a more touristic way. Het was gewéldig. Werkelijk geweldig!
IKnit Day 2008 in Londen bruisde aan alle kanten en overtrof zichzelf. Ik weet nog steeds niet wat ik het allerleukste vond. De snedige lezing van Yarn Harlot waar Hil en ik usherettes speelden in ruil voor een goeie plek vooraan in de zaal, de 42 (!) shawls van Jane Sowerby, een dametje naar mijn hart die met pit en vriendelijkeheid een werkelijk schitterende presentatie gaf, de gezelligheid van ons Dutch Knitting Café met alle leuke reacties van stroopwafel-etende gasten, de vele beroemde breiers die altijd wel bereid waren tot een praatje of fotootje of de grote hoeveelheid stands met garens, boeken en accessoires voor de échte yarn snob.
Het was heerlijk om deze dag te beleven met zoveel Nederlandse breivrienden. Ook zagen we veel breiers terug die we verleden jaar bij de IKnit Day hadden leren kennen. Onder ons ook een paar beroemde breiers, als ik het zo uit mag drukken…… Jan ter Heide en Evelien Verkerk hadden een deel van hun Knitted Landscape foto’s meegesjouwd, Nancy Marchant demonstreerde de Brioche Stitch en Yarnissima presenteerde al haar mooie sokkenpatronen. En nog veel meer!
Jullie begrijpen het al…… volgend jaar ga ik weer! 😉

IKnit Day 2008 in London was a great success and even better as the first Day. I’m still in doubt what I loved most. The sassy reading of Yarn Harlot where Hil and I were usherettes to earn our seats in front of the hall, the 42 (!) stunning shawls of Jane Sowerby, a lovely and very friendly lady but a real riot who gave a marvellous presentation, the cosiness of our Dutch Knitting Café with all the nice remarks of stroopwafel eating guests, the famous knitters that were willing to talk with us or let us take photos or the great amount of stands with yarn, books and accessories for the réal yarn snob.
It was so nice to experience this day with so many Dutch knitting friends. We also met friends we got acquainted with last year. Among us were a few famous knitters too, if I may say so……. Jan ter Heide and Evelien Verkerk brought part of their Knitted Landscape photos, Nancy Marchant demonstrated the Brioche Stitch and Yarnissima presented all her lovely sock patterns. And lots more!
You already guessed…… I’m sure I will return next year!
